HCPortal item 1081, also DECODE record 3268, is a postcard dated 8 July 1911 from Lee-on-the-Solent to Fareham. The catalogue names its recipient as Miss M. Jallett. An open address occupies the right side; a separate handwritten message occupies the left.
The private field has eleven short physical lines. Familiar-looking pen strokes form groups that are awkward to read in the card’s normal orientation. The printed postcard legend and the address provide a way to check that orientation against the rest of the object.
The original image is essential here: a typed transcription would lose the letterforms that define the problem. The first resource opens the record with both sides of the card. Can the private field be read as it stands?
